Faster-release players often benefit from a lower number; power shooters may prefer a firmer shaft.
About cutting: Cutting a stick does not change its factory flex rating. It does reduce the effective bending span and player leverage, so the stick usually feels stiffer in use. To preserve the intended feel, this calculator lowers the recommended printed flex by four points per inch trimmed.
