Why this may differ from half your body weight: Weight ÷ 2 is an old starting rule, not a final answer. Your recommended printed flex also depends on your likely stick length, shooting style, and any trimming you plan to do. Faster-release players often benefit from a lower number; power shooters may prefer a firmer shaft.

About cutting: Cutting a stick does not change its factory flex rating. It does reduce the effective bending span and player leverage, so the stick usually feels stiffer in use. To preserve the intended feel, this calculator lowers the recommended printed flex by four points per inch trimmed.

How to use the result: Start with the suggested retail flex, then test one adjacent flex above or below it in the same model, length, curve, and lie. A flex number is a comparison tool, not a universal measurement of how every stick will feel. Come in and we'll cut and tape it for you.
